I stumbled across this
article today. Definitely worth a read and it resonated very strongly with me. I can still remember arguing with my math teacher about the value of what we were being taught and how we were being taught. Actually I'd go so far as to say it sums up why I have a problem with our education system.
Hey Ben,
ReplyDeleteWhere in the %$#'ell have you been? I havent read any of your babblings yet, I assume you are still in the old dart.
It would be good to catch up for a game or three, I am registered on FICS free chess server. Its not too shabby if you load up the freeee Babaschess client. We 'between jobs' types need to watch our budget.
Cheers,
Ivor
Mr. Barett was it? What an AWESOME teacher he was?!? Turned me off maths for the whole time he was teaching me, thank God for Dr Naphtali in year 12. How are things at your end of the world?
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Peto
ivor: I've simply been slacking on my posts and yes I'm still in England. I'll set up something on FICS and find you for a game, though I warn you it's been a while and I'm sure my standard has dropped considerably.
ReplyDeleteMike: it was indeed mr Barett. He was an interesting case that guy, lots of problems, which I suspect I contributed to in no small way :)
